Children at school in Cape Town, South Africa

All grown up:

Education is the foundation for opportunity.  While teaching in Cape Town, South Africa my colleagues and I did a tour of the schools in districts all over the city.  I love this pic of these three youngsters hanging out during a school lunch break.

After apartheid the education system in South Africa changed dramatically.  Students, rather than being segregated by race, attended schools in their district.

There is still tension and ongoing racial divide between some of the older generations.  Yet, these young eyes don’t see race any longer.  School is for learning and fun.  While the education system in the country develops, so does the opportunities for South African youth.
