Fresh snowfall on Rathong Valley – West Sikkim, India

Himalayan view: Rathong Valley, West Siikim India

At 4500m above sea level, this was the view from the washroom at base camp where the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute trains.  It takes 7 days to acclimate and walk to HMI’s base camp because you start at sea level.

This picture was taken in March when the mountains are still transitioning in to spring.  Early in the morning before breakfast I often enjoyed this spectacular view.  It was here that I’d brush my teeth and prepare myself for the days lessons and exercises.
