The Tokyo Sky Tree, the world’s second tallest tower, opened its doors to journalists on Tuesday to offer advanced views of Tokyo’s skyline. The tower officially opens to the public on 22 May 2012.

The 634-meter tower is designed to withstand earthquakes, which are common to Japan. The telecomunications tower has a glass floor, observation deck, and restaurants.

The Toykyo Sky Tree is the second tallest structure in the world behind the 828-meter Burj Khalifa in Dubai. In third place is China’s Canton Tower at 600-meters. Canada’s CN Tower in Toronto held the record for tallest tower at 533-meters from 1976 to 2009.
